Assegai Awards Conference 2008

Don’t miss this power packed new addition to the prestigious DMASA Assegai Awards 2008, presented by the South African Post Office. This potent one-day conference on Wednesday, 5 November 2008 at Gallagher Estate, Midrand boasts an impressive line-up of world class marketing experts from local and global shores.

International speakers include the highly acclaimed Andy Owen (UK) and Alastair Tempest from FEDMA. Local presenters are from the cutting edge of marketing practice and technology in South Africa and include Arthur Goldstuck (Internet/Mobile analyst) Rick Joubert (Vodacom), Suzanne Stevens (Discovery), Roelof van Wyk (Trigger), Keith Wiser (5th Dimension) and Andrew Ambrogioni (Action Ambro’s).

The conference delivers a powerful platform in which Direct Marketing industry leaders and practitioners can share their knowledge and experiences, focusing on the evolving face of the direct marketing sector, sharing insights, trends, methodologies and case studies from some of the biggest names in the international and local industry.

Renowned speaker Andy Owen, will deliver the opening address to the conference. “Direct Marketing is a profession that was built by visionaries and once upon a time radiated with energy and passion, a vocation if you like, about the business. Professionalism and responsibility in the industry are burning topics that need to be addressed in order to restore the industry to a place where quality reigns supreme and the creative and copy hits the spot,” says Andy. His topic of discussion ‘Communicate, connect, influence or die...’ will deliver superior insights into the creative and copy secrets needed to make a campaign work harder.

Alastair Tempest the current director general of the Federation of European Direct Marketing (FEDMA) will close the conference proceedings on the topic of a regulated direct marketing sector. “The DM sector is vulnerable to accusations that we are intrusive, abusive of personal data, environmentally unfriendly and generally not working towards the sustainability of the globe. These accusations lead to regulation and restriction. The challenge we face as direct marketing professionals lies in the methods that we engage to address these threats and what can be done to ensure that we are better understood and are prepared to contribute positively towards the challenges we face,” says Alastair.

The 2008 Assegai Conference will offer a wealth of information and will open the floor for the discussion of topics that are relevant to the industry and of great importance to practitioners. Delegates can look forward to topics such as the exploding digital communications market, high profile brand case studies, the makings of a creative campaign that delivers and a generous helping of international and local trends and standards.
